SkillsUSA District 4 Conference

General Information

SkillsUSA Massachusetts hosts six District Conferences to determine the competitors for the Massachusetts SkillsUSA
Championships. The conferences are held in late February to early March at selected locations in each district. To be eligible, a student must be a paid-in-full SkillsUSA member in good standing.

Greater Lowell is part of District 4. This district is comprised of:
  • Greater Lowell Tech
  • Shawsheen Tech
  • Whittier Tech
  • Essex Tech
  • Nashoba Tech
  • Greater Lawrence Tech

The District Competition consists of three components: 
  • 50 Question Technical Exam-- 80% of the final score
  • 50 Question Employability Skills/Professional Development Exam-- 20% of final score
  • 25 Question OSHA Exam-- Tie Breaker

The Cosmetology Under 500, Esthetics, and Nail Care models are not required to attend. Models may be chosen after the district SkillsUSA Championships.

Each total participation chapter is eligible to place four competitors in each skill category.  There will be a maximum of 12 high school competitors per event at the state level. In most cases, the top two qualifying scores, per district, will advance to the Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships.

Conference Program (General Schedule)
10:00–11:00 am-- Registration
11:05–11:45 am-- Opening General Session
12:00–12:30 pm-- Lunch (provided)
12:30 pm-- Written events begin
3:00–4:30 pm--Activity Period (Dance, games, etc)
3:45–5:00 pm-- Dinner (provided to contestants)
5:00–6:30pm-- Awards Ceremony (Open to the Public)
@7:00 pm--Departure of Visiting Schools
  Greater Lowell Students report to Lecture Hall for Dismissal

Parents, Friends, and Staff:
Guests are welcome to attend the Awards Ceremony which is held in the Main Gym. Admission is FREE but , please note, that this event may be standing room only. Guests arriving early may be asked to wait in the Lecture Hall until all students return from dinner. Once students are re-seated in the gym, guests will be escorted to all available seats. Following the Awards Ceremony, all Greater Lowell students MUST report to the Lecture Hall for dismissal. This is a brief meeting for photos and State Conference paperwork distribution. Parents/friends may join their student for this meeting.
